Alone In The Rain

There was no storm in the forecast, yet it sprung upon them in the evening.

Not a weather event, but still an atmospheric pressure of sorts.

The pouring came heavy. Captain Morgan drowned his discontent, his melancholy;

And as a result of watering his hurt, a thunderous voice erupted on a school night.

The young girl was often called shy, but she wasn’t. She was observant.

She sensed the storm’s pressure, and she wanted to take cover, but she could not.

Not as the oldest.

The most sensitive. Most argumentative. Most difficult.

She faced the storm, as was her duty. And again on many evenings since.

And while the clouds did clear away for a time, Turbulence always found a way to return.

They may marvel at her choice to go outside. She should stay inside where it’s safe.

But without the sun it would always be cloudy.

She does want them to know that she is tired of getting drenched.

Tired of standing alone in the rain.
