Events and Volunteering

Helping our neighbors could very well be the most important thing we do in life. We will highlight specific volunteer opportunities as they come up, but there are a variety of ways we can help others. Many of which do not require a lot of time or energy. Here are a few ideas right off the bat to get you started.

Donate
Whether it’s donating financially to a go fund me page for someone in your community, donating objects like clothes, furniture, and toys to distribution centers, or donating blood to save a person’s life. These are often easy ways to give back.

Participate
Often times all it takes to make a difference is participation. Being a body in a crowd at a protest, participating in the civil process of voting, attending town meetings or local classes and workshops. You don’t have to lead to be of service to someone. You can simply participate.

Support
Showing support can be even less work than participating in something, but often just as impactful. It’s being present and open when someone speaks to you. Support can be a hug or a card. It’s being in the audience for a child’s school play or sporting event. It’s shopping locally to help the common man rather than big corporations. Supporting one another is easy, but important.

Include
There aren’t many feelings worse than feeling excluded, which is why it’s important that we are inclusive. Invite others to events. Speak to the group and not just the few. Be kind.

Volunteer
Once you’re regularly implementing these actions you’ll naturally want to keep helping others-to do more. Volunteering doesn’t have to be so daunting. It’s simply donating your time and skills. You can commit to just a few times a year and still make a difference.

You can volunteer with community cleans ups and disaster relief, help professionals in hospitals, schools, or retirement homes. Serve the homeless in soup kitchens, care for animals at a shelter, tutor students, or plan events.
